Welcome to Jomala
Out of Åland’s sixteen municipalities Jomala is the biggest rural one in number of inhabitants. Here you will find countryside full of life with active villages and an expanding economy. Jomala’s population of about 3,500 inhabitants is distributed among 32 villages. Most people work in the service sector although agricultural work by tradition still has a strong position within the municipality.
The only airport on the main island of Åland is situated in Jomala, and the nearest ferry harbour is in the neighbouring municipality of Mariehamn, which is actually the only town in Åland.The nature offers a variety of experiences: Encounter the Åland Sea at Hammarudda in the west, see the open fields in the centre of Jomala,enjoy the deciduous woodland meadows at Ramsholmen and let yourself become fascinated by the Ice Age formations in the Ingby mountains.
At Midsummer time we invite you to join in the festivities around any one of the Midsummer poles in the area. It is easy to join in the ring dances around the pole and make contacts with the village people.
In the municipality you will also find ancient monuments, museums and cultural activities as well as many opportunities for sports and outdoor life.
Jomala is always well situated whenever and however you arrive in Åland!
